Job Description

The core function of the Location and Environment Bureau (LEB) is to balance transportation project delivery, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship for Iowa’s transportation interests. This internship will help the Iowa DOT staff achieve is core function in compliance with various cultural resources laws including the National Historic Preservation Act.  This position will serve an important role as a member of the cultural resources team by assisting us to help meet various state and federal regulations.
 
The successful candidate will assist the Iowa DOT’s cultural resources management staff with project delivery activities and functions. The duties for this position will include administrative support, site condition assessments, resource research, cultural resources field work, electronic records management, project management support and assisting with stakeholder outreach.
 
Duration Options: Position available starting late spring (up to 40 hours/week) and will run through the summer

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Educational Requirements: Undergraduate or graduate students in Anthropology/Archaeology, American Indian Studies, History, Geography or with an interest in cultural resources.
 
Preferred background: Prefer student who is at least a sophomore and has taken an archaeological field school.  It is preferred that the candidate have some familiarity with the National Register of Historic Places.
