Job description:
- Field work including plant identification, tabulation of plant material for replacement, GPS mapping for landscape plans, and flagging for landscape work.
- Remove trunk protectors and do minimal hand pruning on recently finished planting projects
- Photograph plant material for updating the Plant Profiler
- Learning the fundamentals of CAD file production for Roadside Development Plans
- Working with the Living Roadway Trust Fund & their publication mailings
- Preparing tabulations/spreadsheets & updating all Fiscal Year landscaping charts in Excel
- Archiving Roadside Development Plans and DOT/DNR Tree Planting Projects
- Developing a familiarity of the programs related to the Roadside Development Section including Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management (IRVM), Iowa’s Living Roadways Trust Fund (LRTF), the DOT/DNR Fund, and other programs we participate in.
Duration: May-December; 40 hours/week
Eligible majors:
Landscape Architecture: must have completed LA 221-Native Plants and LA 222-Introduced Plants
Horticulture: Must have completed one of the following: HORT 240 - Trees, shrubs and woody plants; HORT 341 - Woody Cultivars; HORT 475 – Urban forestry or FOR 475 - Urban forestry
