Job description:

Assists Office of Bridges and Structures staff with the preparation of computer-generated design plans by drafting and adding text to the design file and producing plan sheets.

Calculates geometrics, quantities, types and sizes of materials; types, sizes and locations of structures, and other information as required for project assignments.

Utilizes and/or revises standards, tabulations, bid items, and other details by drafting and editing existing files and incorporating into project plan sheets.

Competencies Required:

Ability to utilize mathematics including geometry, and trigonometry in computations required for design plans.

Ability to learn the use of computer-aided drafting software, and various other software packages in the creation of project plans, maps, graphs and charts and various reports.

Ability to read and learn the use of reference materials available for project development such as historical project information, Standard Specifications, bid items lists, design manuals, and manufacturers’ material catalogs and manuals.

Ability to learn the use of computer and project file systems, understand file interrelationships and customize data with the individual files.

Preferred qualifications:

Prefer a student who has completed CAD courses and has familiarity with Microstation.

Prefer a student who can start this spring and transition to full time hours during summer.  Position could also carry on into part time fall if student is still eligible for our student intern program (not graduated or change course of study).

 

Qualification Requirements: Completed or completing in Spring 2018 one year of a two-year Associate degree in Computer-Aided Design Technology program or Civil Engineering Technology program or another related field.

 

Duration: May-August

40 hours/week
